RICE: Rest, ice, compression, and elevation are the first line treatments for an ligament injury.  I'd recommend icing for 20 minutes at a time, at least twice a day.  Take 4 advil (ibuprofen) (if you have no stomach problems) 3 times a day with food.  Elevate the foot as much as possible, and wrap with an ACE.  If it feels no better after  couple weeks, i would recommend going in for an x ray to rule out fracture.

LOTS TO GUESS: I have to guess a lot, b/c the info is sparse. Bone bruise and ligament damage=at least moderate degree of trauma. Ligaments affected-inside ankle bone ligaments?-deltoids. Tingling-maybe the tibial nerve was temporarily damaged.

i fell backwards and my big toe got stubbed and bent (like when you're on your mark in a race). there are white lines on my toenail and sometime pain when i walk. i worry i might have fractured bones or ligament but id like to avoid xray radiation?

: I would not be concerned about the amount of radiation you will receive and please be evaluated and examined by a doctor. You might not need an X-ray.  X-rays of extremities is minimal.

Ankle injury: Given the fact u have persistent ankle pain and swelling one year post injury lets us know that some structure is disrupted, you need to be evaluated!

Post op pain: Post op pain is normal after foot surgery; it usually subsides after three days. Elevate, rest and put ice on over your dressings. Keep your dressings dry and try not to touch it until you see your doctor. Good luck.

Brace Yourself.: Actually, there are several tendons that course in that direction. The only realistic solution is to call the doctor and ask him the question. You might ask just how the brace is going to help you.

10-14 days: The fracture itself will usually heal by 6-8 weeks, but most bruising resolves in the 10-14 day range.

PT then reevaluation: Most ankle sprains injure the outer ankle ligaments(inversion injury). The pain last1-6 weeks. If after 12 weeks with time and physical therapy pain persists , particularly if it it on the inner aspect an orthooedic re-evaluation is necessary. Ther emay be an occult fracture there, tendon or nerve injury as part of the original injury. Often a MRI or ct scan may help diagnose the problem.

See a podiatrist: Depending on what ligament in the foot was injured, and how badly it was injured can have specific consequences. Seeing a podiatrist can  diagnose the injury, and provide for specific treatment guidelines.  These might include rest, ice, using a splint or brace, and antiinflammatory medications.
