Antibiotiics : Broad spectrum antibiotics can affect the bacterial that inhabit your digestive system and lead to overgrowth of normal bacteria.  To help keep them. In check a probiotic, acidophilus, or activia yogurt can help normalize the levels and restore order.  It doesn't take but a cup of yogurt a day to help restore the balance.

Probiotic won't work: If you have had vaginal yeast and have the same symptoms now, you probably can safely treat yourself. A probiotic probably won't work; you need an anti-yeast drug. Look for a product whose active ingredient ends in "azole" (Monistat®, Terazol®, Gyne-Lotrimin® and others). But if in doubt, get advice from the doc that prescribed the antibiotic. If you self treat, call doc if no better in 2-3 days.

: Probiotics are just seed colonies of safe germs known not to cause disease in the GI tract. When taken they can introduce these colonies that grow and crowd out germs or yeast that may be harmful. Taking them after a round of antibiotics that can kill off some good gut germs is reasonable. Taking them all the time may or may not give any boost to anything.

Probiotics: There are several high potency probiotics available, such as klaire complete, and orthobiotic, two of my favorites. A good post antibiotic restorative probiotic should have at least 4 strains of acidophillus and bifido bacteris, and a friendly competitor for candida, like florastor. Ortho biotic has all of those in one supplement. The other thing to look for is billions of cfu (cocloies).

my son was diagnosed with cdiff why is this so dangerous and does it ever go away? hes 21 and im extremely worried about it.. he was not taking any antibiotics at all so how did he get it? should he be taking a probiotic now?

Basics: C.diff is an opportunist bacteria that you ingest. In some that have taken antibiotics that have killed off the balance of bacteria that live passively in the gut it might rapidly reproduce &amp; trigger a worrisome gut infection that might lead to hospitalization or at least special treatment. In others it may just be another random germ that does nothing important. Discuss with his doc.
