Knee brace: A knee brace can limit some excursion of the knee but it won't prevent catastrophic injuries or tears.

Some: A serious knee brace helps people with an unstable knee prevent further knee damage until surgery is done.  For just the meniscus tear, some people are more comfortable in a brace, but it's not "helping" the problem. That being said, it's not hurting either. Some of my patients like them, but i would not recommend paying a lot unless your knee has torn ligaments, .

Hinged brace + PT: The best braces to decrease the chances of having instability episodes are hinged knee braces. Even with these braces, however, you may still experience instability. Your best bet to decrease these episodes is to begin a focused exercise protocol to strengthen your quadriceps, hamstrings, and hip abductor &amp; adductor muscles. I often prescribe physical therapy for these injuries.

No: I would strongly suggest that the tear be repaired and your post-op healing and rehab be complete before returning to the gridiron.

If you are: Having pain as a result of wearing your knee brace, contact your orthopedic surgeon or physical therapist and request a different one.

Knee immobilizer: This would be the least expensive and get the job done till you get the MRI and your dr diagnoses you. It will rest the knee for you.

Surgery?: The majority of meniscus tears in younger people are treated surgically. If the meniscus is torn in the correct spot, it can be repaired, unfortunately most require surgical excision of the tear.  Rehab usually lasts 4-6 weeks after the surgery.

Need arthroscopy: Usually arthroscopy can fully determine and often treat a torn meniscus. Mri might be interpreted incorrectly and often a surgeon will either find the MRI not representing what they  see during video arthroscopy. The ulcer however should be better explained as it can be due to a number of causes and treatment will vary depending on the cause. Find an orthopedic specialist who treats athletes.

hello i have very bad knee pain and osteoarthritis and a torn meniscus, but would like to take up cycling. which type of bike / cycling is best for me? a track bike (cycling one-speed bike on flat surfaces), or a racer bike or a mountain bike?thanks?

: You should see your orthopedic doctor to find out the answers to this question from someone who knows your knee best. It is likely that a track bike is your best bet but your orthopedic doctor would know best as he/she knows exactly what is wrong with your knee and how best to avoid further injury. Good luck!

what's after a full leg brace? i had vascular surgery and my meniscus is still ripped. what comes after this? will i walk with a torn meniscus?

Varies: It varies in part on the reason for the brace.  A brace is not a standard treatment for your meniscal tear, so you may be wearing the brace for other reasons.  Typical treatment for most meniscal tears is arthroscopic repair verses debridement, but you might not be a candidate for this based upon a recent vascular surgery.  I would certainly discuss specifics of your case with your surgeons.
