How : How long did you use the athlete's foot cream? It can take a few weeks of using it twice a day for you to notice an improvement. Have you tried changing your soap? It may be extremely dry, which is why the vaseline is working. You can try a heavy cream (in a jar) like eucerin or aquaphor. If the problem persists you should see your doctor for an evaluation and treatment.

Fungus: Athletes feet is a fungus in the skin.  There are at least 35 pathological fungi that can cause athletes feet, and those 35 organisms are split up into 3 general catagories.  If you have been on topical broard spectrum antifungals and the problem keeps on returning, try an antiperspirant to decrease foot sweating. If that doesn't work, go to your local podiatrist for cultures and/or biopsy and tx.

Not sure but: Not good to put cream between toes when walking. So, i recomend to place it between toes at night, or ensure its rubbed in well in the skin when applying interdigitally.

Symptoms: Yes, it's appropriate to treat some symptoms of athlete's foot, but it does not treat the pathology (fungi infection).   It will reduce redness and itchyness to the feet, but the fungus may still be present.  Good luck.

Athletes foot: Using cheaper creams is fine - but keep in mind that there is significant bioavailability and the actualy effective drug may vary between the different products. If you are using a cheaper product i would also suggest that you use an athletes foot powder as well.

Severe case: If lotrimin af or topical over the counter creams are not working you may need rx: Lamisil (terbinafine) or Nizoral cream/tablets. See your physician and stop all otc meds.

To start with...: The best otc medication (in my opinion) is lotrimin (clotrimazole) ultra. Socks should be a synthetic material like those manufactured by thorlo [http://www.Thorlo.Com/]. Dilute vinegar soaks are good as well.  Dry the inside of your shoes by placing them up-side down over an air return vent at home overnight. If this doesn't make things better in a couple days, see a podiatrist.
