3F: Fluids, fruits and fiber are a good start in the battle with constipation.  A big glass of orange juice, along with 2 servings of fruit {avoid bananas) will help.  Find cereal that you like that is high in dietary fiber.  Read labels and compare in the grocery, where there are plenty of options.  Similar meals throughout the day, plus veggies, should help.  Otherwise, check with your doctor!

In general, when anyone has constipation, it could be because a certain food has affected the gut.  It helps to change things around, maybe another type of cereal.  Whenever constipation exists, it should be immediately addressed as you are doing!  try probiotics if the constipation persists despite changing the diet.

Possibly: Any fiber source can help constipation proivided you are drinking adequate fluids with it. If you are lacking in fluids and overdose on fiber it can make the constipation worse. Fiber is important but too much of a good thing is not always better.

No fiber: Whole milk is good for baby cows, but not too healthy for adults. One reason is that it is 100 % digested and absorbed ( unless lactose intolerant). When that happens it sucks the fluid out of the colon along with it. It has 0% fiber. When you have it with your cereal you are getting fiber which holds fluid. Besides whole milk has 160 calories in 8 oz. Drink sugar free almond milk, 30 calories.

Fiber?: White rice and farina(the white bread of hot cereals) have no fiber to speak of. Brown rice has a bit more. Whole wheat cereal, e.g. Wheaten a, whole oats, e.g. Oatmeal, oat bran have more fiber. Can't have a decent stool without adequate fiber. In general, aim for 25-35gm/day. Lots of good sources of fiber, r.G. Beans, fruit/veg, whole grains. Lots of good info online.

is it possible to become dependent upon fiber. to avoid chronic constipation i have been eating high-fiber cereal quantity of 50 g fiber daily. i am concerned that if i stopped i would become very constipated. am i creating problem for myself. thanks?

Fiber is good !: The average male should be consuming ~38g of fiber daily, so I don’t see a problem with regular intake of 50 or more daily

AMm nausea .bleching: Could be from  reflux (GERD), constipation, or ovarian pathology as well. Consider OTC ranitidine for reflux  and see if helps. For constipation try high fiber 1 cup oats, brown rice (not white) , barley, lentils a day and  avocados, strawberries, kale, sweet potatoes.  and plenty of fluid 2-3 liters of water/ gatorade/ juices a day ( only 1/2 of it water so as not to dilute sodium.  ,

: Lactose intolerance could be the issue. Can you point to dairy products as triggers? Another possibility is irritable bowel syndrome. The fodmap diet could be triedor Antispasmodic meds or one of the newer prescription meds. I would still submit a fresh warm stool sample for culture to rule out pathogenic bacteria, ova&amp; parasites,however.  A gastroenterologist is best to consult if symptoms persis

Please Stop : Please stop putting cereal in your infant&#x27;s milk. This is not proper, is dangerous, and never was advised by your baby&#x27;s doctor.  Please contact your baby&#x27;s pediatrician to learn when it is proper to begin introducing food to your baby&#x27;s diet. It is not at seven weeks, i can assure you.
