Accepted Answer

Yes: Melatonin is the only other over the counter sleep aid that's not Diphenhydramine (antihistamine) in the us. Prescription sleep aids are not antihistamines. I also recommend non-pill sleep aids. Check out sleepphones (google it) or google sleep hygiene.

Not a great choice: Antihistamines make you tired, but that is not the same as sleeping. Sleeping works best when you get adequate amounts of stage IV rem sleep. Antihistamines don't help you get to stage IV rem. You have better options.

Yes: Zma is a preparation of zinc, magnesium and a b vitamin. It is marketed mainly as a strength building supplement but is also marketed as a sleep aid (they add tryptophan, which can enhance sleep).

No need to wean off: You may stop the antihistamine whenever you wish since withdrawal symptoms are not expected.  However if it helps you to fall asleep, I see no harm in taking it nightly either.

Exercise: Aerobic exercise has been shown to help regulate sleep patterns.  Good sleep habits are also very important.

i currently have lymphangiosclerosis in my penis. last night i took the antihistamine dipehnhydramine hydrochloride and 50mg of it to sleep. will this affect my condition at all?

Sore throat: Finding the cause & treating it. Those meds. Are for lowering temp. And soothing discomfort temporarily. Consult your pcp.

had anxiety bp went 160/100 pulse 120 bpm.managed by 2 hrs. then prescribed antihistamine for better sleep but developed boil after 2days.is this bad?

Lots here.: The boil is likely not related to the other symptoms. The insomnia may be related to the anxiety.  Yes- that BP &amp; heart rate are elevated. What are you doing to address your anxiety?  Talking therapy ranks really high. Cognitive Behavioral therapy or psychotherapy can be effective. Aim for daily exercise, 8 hours of sleep per night &amp; good nutrition w 5 servings of veggies &amp; 4 of fruit per day.
