Unlikely: To have been a spider bite.  Most of these (unless you have actually seen and identified the spider as a black widow or brown recluse), are community acquired infection with methicillin-resistant staph aureus (mrsa).  Many of these are sensitive to Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) or Doxycycline or sometimes clindamycin.  Dicloxacillin is unlikely to be effective.

One that generally: Covers staph. Generally these are zyvox, doxycycline, bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) clindamycin.  You have to worry about MRSA infection. Also check your tetanus status.

i had a spider bite that turned into cellulitis. i just finished 10 days of antibiotic and it's still itching. is that normal?

Accepted Answer

: Sometimes, as something heals, it becomes itchy. As long as it is no longer red, swollen, painful, etc., it is healing. It will continue to get better now that the bacteria causing the cellulitis have been eliminated by the antibiotic. If the infection symptoms return, then contact your doctor but it should continue to heal. Good luck!
