Yes : It is considered elevated.  Want it at least under 200 or even lower depending on co-morbidness (e.g. Hypertension, diabetes, family history, etc.).  A heart healthy diet and regular exercise program is the first step.

Not bad, more veg.,,: Your results are not too bad as your total is only slightly elevated.  However your LDL is definitely high and it would be wise to try to lower it.  Probably the best way is by diet.  Stay away from fatty foods like fatty meats and cakes and eat more lean meats and vegetables and fruit to increase fiber which can clear out extra fats and help lower ldh and total chol.. Shape up: Speak to your doctor , getting false results are rare  don't worry about that , cholesterol medications are safe follow your doctors advise , yes some do get muscle aches , elevated liver enzymes etc  , your doctor is monitoring . Do regular exercises , good healthy balanced food , maintain healthy life style .

No: Total cholesterol is made up of "good" cholesterol (hdl), "bad" cholesterol (ldl) and triglycerides.You want high hdl, and low LDL & triglycerides.  High cholesterol is caused by genetic factors (your body makes too much cholesterol), dietary intake, and lack of exercise.  Exercise has been shown to increase HDL and lower ldl. Salt intake does not impact cholesterol levels.

Depends . . .: Jury is still out re homocysteine (HCY) . Some research suggests that high HCY is bad for heart disease. Yet there is no evidence that lowering HCY will reduce risk. LDL of 4.52mmol/L = 174.8mg/dL which is high but not horribly so. As of 11/13, we consider 4 groups who might benefit from statins so talk w/your family doc to see if you qualify. In meantime, focus on lifestyle modifications.
