Unpredictable: Most benign tumors never turn malignant. If you have been told a tumor needs to come out, it probably needs to come out. Parotid tumors are treacherous as they can infiltrate and become much more difficult to remove without damaging your facial nerve without seeming to get bigger.

Spread not likely: Pleomorphic adenoma is benign and there is minimal risk of spread with a fine needle aspirate. Removal is warranted as the lesion can become larger.

You actually have 2 parotids on the sides of your face  just below the ears. The loss of one half of a parotid would not likely be a problem. The cause of such tumors varies. The doc who did your surgery can tell you if your tumor was a cancer or benign.

Salivary gland: 15% -20% of parotid masses. 50% of submandibular gland masses. 90% of of minor salivary gland masses.

Don't worry: It's not clear what is wrong with your parotid (salivary) glands, but cancer is very rare in this area and cancer usually doesn't  occur on both glands at the same time. So i'm not worried. Parotid glands can get enlarged for many non-cancer reasons. You can also develop stones in them. See a dentist or doctor if you have a lump in your mouth.
