Benadryl (diphenhydramine): It can cause palpitations. Not a common side effect though.

No: Benadry is an antihistamine. It's used in allergies, itching, runny noses, and sometimes for bedtime sedation. But not for panic disorders. The best medications for this are the ssri antidepressants, some older antidepressants, and, for acute attacks or until the other medications start to work, anti-anxiety meds. In combination with these, cognitive behavioral therapy may help.

Bad for you: Anything which made you feel strange is bad for you but the effect will not be long lasting.  I presume you have taken each individually without problem before.  If so you must avoid the combination. What is good for one person may be bad for another.

Depends: It's a matter of opinion. Sometimes just getting a checkup and being reassured that you are fine is helpful. Then there are medications for anxiety. If you tend to hyperventilate, then it is sometimes helpful to breathe into a paper bag. My preference is hypnosis however since it is one of the things I use and I have seen it to be very successful.

i have been taking xanax (alprazolam) for several years because i have severe panic attacks. 1 mg 3x''s a day. i don't think it is working anymore. ?

Maybe not enough: Most likely the xanax (alprazolam) is still having some effect. Probably it is just not working well enough. Other treatments that are often helpful include serotonin antidepressants (sri's like prozac, zoloft, lexapro) and cognitive behavioral therapy. You should talk to your doctor. But don't abruptly stop the xanax (alprazolam).

Find a therapist: You need to discuss this with your doc &amp; see of s/he knows a therapist that can work with you. Applied behavioral therapy (talk) can often help anyone gain perspective and the skill set needed to deal with the trials &amp; tribulations of life.

Not necessarily: They should resolve with proper treatment. A combination of medication and cognitive behavior therapy has the best outcome.

Yes - I Think: I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "real." to me, if a person has panic attacks, and if there are certain reasons or triggers for these, then there is certainly a real connection between those events and the panic attacks. Maybe: Panic attacks often last 2 to 10 mins. Sx’s can include: sense of severe anxiety or panic, chest tightness or pain, rapid or pounding heartbeat, areas of numbness or pins ; needles type sensation, hot flashes or chills ; heavy perspiration. There may be a tickle sensation in the stomach or nausea, feeling dizzy or faint ; physical shaking. The person may fear that they are going crazy, they are &gt;.
