They are caused by sun exposure and ultraviolet light (tanning beds) and are very common on the face.

It is very rare for them to metastasize or spread to other parts of the body.  They can be easily cured with surgery and other treatments.

For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

Typically in people over at least 30 years of age as it takes years of sun exposure to develop and is slow-growing. Fortunately it is very treatable with various minor surgical procedures. See a dermatologist and/or plastic surgeon for advice.
