Raised skin lesion: Usually basal cell carcinoma presents as a relatively small, round, raised, pearly skin lesion. It can be smooth or have a small central depression. There may be a purplish or reddish color to the lesion. Usually it is isolated and single and quite slow to grow. There is rarely any pain or itching or any other sign that there is a problem. Of all skin cancers, basal cell is the least aggressive.

Varies: Most basal cell are treated surgically by curettage, excision or mohs surgery. For superficial basal cells in very sick elderly topical medications can be used. In very difficult location radiation is use on occasion. For people with multiple basal cells or who can tolerate surgery there is a new fda approved medication which is very expensive.

: It depends on how long the lesion has been there without treatment. Most are small lesions, less than 0.5 cm. Left alone these can grow to multiple inches, eating away the tissue locally. These tumors do not metastasize, i.,e. do not spread to distant sites.

Stay out of sun!: Or use a sunscreen with an spf over 15 always! the ultraviolet damage is cumulative, so the damage to your exposed skin lasts a lifetime--look at the neckline area compared to the covered breast skin in an older man or woman! if you have a bcc it must be removed, but rarely spreads or kills (unless irritated or ignored). See a plastic surgeon, not a non-surgeon.

Extremely unlikely: Basal cell cancer (or carcinoma) is the most common type of skin cancer and it caused by cumulative sun exposure. It can spread by directly growing into surrounding areas and rarely by spreading through lymphatic vessels but not through the bloodstream. Melanoma, a less common but potentially deadly skin cancer, however can spread that way.
