: It all depends on the actual cause for the inflammation, most common acid reflux. Dietary changes may help, specifically losing weight if applicable. Best would be to find out the cause for the inflammation and then go over options with your gastroenterologist, given your preferences.

Diet eval: Need to know cause. Unfortunately gerd is not easy to control. Meds (proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole) can help decrease over-production of stomach acid, but some claim gerd related to under-production. Have a sleep test to rule out apnea and seek nutritional counseling from your pcp.

What you need to: know first is the diagnosis: what is the cause of your esophageal pain? Presume you have chest/upper abdominal pain and believe it is esophageal. While elaborate tests may not be needed, you need to present your symptoms to a doctor for a diagnosis to be made. If reflux or dyspepsia, then trial of anti-acids, acid (H-2) blockers or acid release inhibitor (PPI) needed with diet/weight loss.

i have barrets esophagus and had an ablation on october 24th. i am curious if smoking marijuana is harming me or if i can continue. i do not drink or use any other drugs. i take my ppi every morning before my meal - the checkup isn't for 4months?

: Marijuana can definitely worsen GERD. In addition many studies are pointing out various other deleterious effects from weed. Do yourself a favor and abandon the practice of using it.

Family practice : Use of anti inflammatories can cause gastritis and esophageal ulcers  but the lesion in your age group is bothersome. Wait for biopsy report and follow up with your dr. Stop your NSAID until seen.

Depends: It it advisable not to have anything on the stomach  prior to any rsophageal studies but if meds are critcal to not miss it is best to consult the physician doing the test a soperhaps he can do early enough so you can still take you routine meds after the procedure. Either way it is best to consult the physcian performing the procedure to get his requirements.

is it ok to dissolve one gram of suralfate every night and drink to avoid acid reflux impact on stomach, esophogus .i believe this medication is pretty safe?

: Sucralfate does not protect your esophagus or prevent acid reflux; its action is to coat your stomach lining. The most effective way to protect your upper GI tract is alcohol abstinence if alcohol causes your stomach or esophagus problems, take care.
