i have a nail band from minocin (minocycline) we think. dr said it should start growing out in 2 months of stopping  the med. do you agree or could it be permanent?

Nails: It would not be permanent if it was from minocin (minocycline). The pigmentation due to Minocin (minocycline) is a deposition disease.

is a dark transversal band in hallux nail compatible with subungual melanoma? it's brown,near lunula,not painful.is it only typical of an hematoma?

Subunguinal hematoma: This is the best guess from the distribution. Most often from shoe friction during long walk or run. The nail will eventually grow out and off. If you remain concerned see a dermatologist.  The covers are is not the most favorable to develop a melanoma.

Prob not melanoma: if both you and your brother have similar nail findings. it is not melanoma.

But you will need to be seen to get a definite answer.

White bands: These are not associated with ALbumen level and are more likely to be associated with Calcium. However these often develop with no abnormalities in your blood

Maybe no problem: A dermatologsit  can clarify the findings. The nail can be a clue to internal medical problem.  Nails can be effected  by a lot of problems including thyroid, kidney, etc

Nail injury: Keep it clean , protect it with band aid . Keep the portion of the nail bed which is missing the nail clean , protected . Most nail injuries heal slowly and well as long as the nail bed has not been disrupted , Typically tearing of nails without a crush component heal with return of a normal nail !

my nails are all dark. the right thumb having darker bands on them than the rest.  i dont think theres any fungus.  im not sure what could be wrong with them.

Depends: If your nails have always been dark, that is part of your natural pigmentation. If the color has changed recently, then you may wish to see your doctor so that you could be tested for fungal infection.

Nothing serious: Nails can be brittle if you are low on iron in your diet. So get your blood checked for anemia and if your hemoglobin is less than 12-13gms, blood iron stores should be checked and supplement provided by your doctor.

my thumb nail is hurting really bad and is bleeding. i've just been putting band-aids on it and suffering. what can i do?

Infection: Clean with hydrogen peroxide. Apply triple antibiotic ointment.Just elevating above heart will give you immidiate releif of pain. If not better , see your doc. Need to be uptodate on tet tox. Herpes can affect the area also.
