i have a sunburn on my butt from a tanning bed, it hurts and is itching a lot and i can't sleep cause its so bad.  what should i do.

Burnt buns: I'm so sorry. You need to get as much cool water to the area as you can to reduce the heat in the skin cells. Try standing in the shower with just your butt in the water stream and keep the water as cool as you can stand. Alternative is to put cold washcloths or towels on, changing them to keep them cool. Apply heavy coat of water based moisturizer every few hours. Take Ibuprofen by mouth for pain.

OH YES!: Tanning beds are dangerous! keep sunburn cool with moist cool/cold compresses.  Avoid alcohol containing products.  Break off pieces of aloe vera plant & apply sap to  skin.  Consider non-steroidal anti-inflammatory meds to reduce pain.  Don’t yank off peeling skin or burst blisters. Seek medical care for severe pain, fever, lack of improvement of sxs within several days.

Moisturizer: While the best option is to avoid tanning beds and excess sun exposure, if you choice to tan your chest, it is important to use proper skin care. This includes a good moisturizer and perhaps chilled aloe vera. The safest option to improve the color of your skin would be to use a bronzer or spray tan. I have done laser resurfacing on a number of female patients who developed sun damage from tanning.

i have red dots on my skin after some bad sun burn but they don't look bad, i've never been in a tanning bed, could they be dangerous?

Accepted Answer

No, not dangerous: Red dots that appear in the exposed area after a severe sunburn are not dangerous, and if they represent capillary damage they will fade in a week or so (depending on the degree of injury). If they last longer they could be cherry angiomas, another benign condition.

i have new moles growing where i had two blistering sun burns from the tanning bed. could they be cancerous?

I would have: These evaluated by a dermatologist. Can't know if they are malignant without a biopsy. Please don't use a tanning bed.

ik tanning beds are bad for you. i tanned in one yesterday and a few hours later i got a sunburn rash across my chest and its the next night and its very itchy like worse then ever but the rash and redness is gone, i tan a lot but never had this?

: I suspect you "tanned" too much. I prefer to call it cooking your skin and your got tanning machine burned. If you your are taking meds that predispose to UV skin injury check with your Dr. Beware.

Self-tanners: There are many self-tanning lotions, sprays, gels, mousse, and even wipes that are available.  I do not recommend tanning beds! also always use a good sunscreen to prevent burning and getting uneven tans.

See a doctor: Melanoma can happen at any age, but the chances increase as you get older.  However, it is one of the leading cancers in adults under 30. The individual risk all depends on genetics, how much exposure to sun, having many moles, etc. The best advice is to have your doctor take a look, and if he/she is concerned, you may be referred to a dermatology specialist.

Melanoma: if you are concerned about melanoma, have a board certified dermatologist check your skin

Accepted Answer

With one condition: Only if it has sun screen in it. Most tanning lotion is meant to enhance the sun's tanning effects, not to block it's harmful uv rays that cause burns. It must have an SPF factor in order to help prevent burns.
