List of Antibiotics: you can get lists of antibiotics readily available from many sources on the Internet. Strength of an antibiotic is a rather subjective thing as it depends on which bacteria you are trying to treat. For example, Penicillin is very effective for Strep Throat but will not treat most skin infections. This doesn't make it any weaker an antibiotic that Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) which would treat both.  Just different.

Not bactericidal: When an antibiotic is not bactericidal, it usually works through bacteriostatic means.  They are tetracyclines, clindamycin, macrolides, or sulfonamides to name a few.

Sulfa is sulfa.: Sulfa antibiotics can cause severe reactions. These reactions can get started and continue to get worse even after the antibiotic is stopped; Stevens-Johnson syndrome is an example. Generally they are easily identified, having sulfa- as a prefix (such as sulfacetamide). Ask the pharmacist regarding oral antibiotics, but be careful with OTC ointments and eyedrops. Sulfur is not usually related.

Pneumonia: Strep pneumonia should be treated with oral or IV or intramuscular antibiotics.  See your doctor and ask what needs to taken for this.

Follow your pediatrician: if your daughter needed antibiotics, so that was her pediatrician 's judgement after evaluating her, keep a follow up now till she recovers and later to prevent recurrence, wish her a speedy recovery

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. Wish you good health!

i've had an ingrown toenail for around 5-6 months and am still on a waiting list, i'm taking antibiotics and cleaning it, could i still lose whole toe?

Infected or not?: This depends if the ingrown nail is causing an infection (redness, pain, swelling, pus, increase in skin temperature).  If you are relatively healthy and have an infection,  this would probably not lead to needing an amputation, however, if you have diabetes or are immune compromised, then you need to take care of this immediately.  In my opinion any bacterial infection should be treated promptly.

urine test showed enterococcus faecalis infection and sensitive to ampicillin and gentamicin. doctor prescribed me amoxicillin, how come as it wasnt on the list of sensitive antibiotics?

Amox = Amp: Ampicillin and amoxicillin are virtually identical. Ampicillin is used in tests to determine which antibiotics are active against bacteria causing urinary tract infections, but if it is active against your E. fecalis, so is amoxicillin. It will be effective treatment for your UTI.

Any ant-biotic can,: The risk is higher w/ broad-spectrum antibiotics - those aimed at a wide range of bacteria  it is also higher  w/ multiple antibiotics or using antibiotics for a long time. Probiotics can help and most folk do get better when they stop use.
