Hard to tell: Better to get examined. It may be musculoskeletal pain which may go away with otc anti inflammatory medications. If the pain occurring in spine as well, it could be due to a pinched nerve or arthritis.

Muscular pain: Most probably musculoskletal pain, as long as the pain is not getting progressively worse, give some time, anti inflammatory and proper stretching might help. If persistent have it checked out

Yes, very much poss-: Ible. Scoliosis (curvature of the spine) always results in the chest wall deformity, 
like what you describe, ie, ribs sticking out.

Muscle Strain: Sounds like a muscle strain.  If so, the pain should respond to anti-inflammatories and tylenol (acetaminophen) and improve over the next several days.  If the pain worsens or you develop and shortness of breath, fever, chills, then seek medical attention.

Many possible causes: Pain with breathing implies involvement of ribs or diaphragm. Most likely is muscular pain, but if this continues beyond another week or so or worsens you should see a physician. In meantime, try rest and anti-inflammatories.

Nonsteroidal med: Nosteroidal anti inflammatory drugs like Motrin Aleve (naproxen) etc are better though Codeine containing drugs can be used for pain relief.
