Pleuritis--see M.D.: This pain at the end of a deep breath in the back at the age of 27 if you are healthy suggests to me pleuritis or costochondritis.  If you have no fever then it is likely not bacterial but viral as it usually is found to be.  Regardless, If this is ongoing for more than a couple of days, I would see your doctor.  If you have a family history of significant heart disease, I would call your M.D. now

i am been diagnosed with gerd. is it normal to hear occasional crackling noise when you inhale?i don't hear it all the time but i do hear it every now and then when i try to take a deep breath? i have a mild back pain too. is it something serious?

: GERD may be leaking acid that ends up in your lungs causing crackling noise. Elevate the head of you bed legs on 8 inch blocks. Gravity never sleeps and plans a role in GERD.

i had coughing/congestion for a week. now there's back pain under right shoulder blade. only hurts mildly with deep inhale. nose is still stuffy.

Should get x ray: There are several possibilities one is that all the coughing caused a muscle spasm and that is what hurts. It could be pleurisy a bit of fluid in the membrane around the lung. It could be a pneumonia although that's normally not painful but you may notice a full sort of breath feeling in inhalation/ the xray will rule out a lot of these quickly/.

Multiple causes: Upper back & right sides chest may be the result of a thoracic disc herniation, thoracic facet syndrome, T4 syndrome, costoveterbral syndrome, muscle strain, ect. It may also represent referred pain from internal organs such as the heart & lungs, which are more serious. With your breathing difficulties you should contact  your  pcp for an immediate evaluation. If not available go to nearest er!

Muscle strain: you probably have a muscle strain and spasm from working out  It can be painful and sharp  It does hurt more with movement  Rest it, moist heat, and some advil (ibuprofen)  If you get shortness of breath or increased chest pain then followup with ER but I feel that it is just a muscle strain at your age

Could be: Slipped rib syndrome or pleuritis. If you have no fever, chills or cold and are otherwise healthy it's probably one of the ribs you slipped our place in your sleep, golf or other activities with rapid twisting.

Hard to say.: If you reproduce this symptom with this particular movement or maneuver, then you are more than likely creating a mechanical problem with bone, ligament or nerve involvement causing your pain.  See your pcp for an exam if this is more than a nuissance.

Exam: Please proceed to your local ER or UC clinic to evaluate your lungs with both a chest x-ray and pulse oximetry. Never ignore chest pain related to deep breathing.
