keep getting twinges of back pain around my waist, seems to alternate between the left and right. feels like trapped gas. is this a cause for concern?

See your doctor: An examination by your doctor may be a good option although if you were to get hydrated VERY WELL over next couple of days, try some heat over the back/flank areas for 20-30 min. at a time and see what happens over next couple of days then, you may improve.  If not, to the doctor who may want to also test you for possible infection of the kidneys or bladder.

Ligament pain: At 15 weeks pregnant your uterus is enlarging and and pulling on your round ligament or uterosacral ligament. 
This hurts, but usualy resolves. If cramping or bleeding let your provider know about your symptoms.

Movement?: If worse with movement likely a musculoskeletal injury. If not, could be any one of a number of things. See you doc, go over the details and  get examined.

Doctor can examine: If not constipation (collection of stool in the left lower abdomen) that goes away with a bowel movement, then one's primary care doctor can check to see what the problem might be, to see if there is a mass in the abdomen or pelvis, or a kidney problem. In a middle-aged adult, even if pain goes away with a bowel movement, the doctor may want to examine him to make sure there's not something bad.

Waist cincher: the pro is it supports you spine and abdomen. Then con is on the long term it can weaken your spinal, abdomen and core muscles which is not a very good idea to wear it all the time. You must see your doctor to know what is causing the pain and manage it wisely

Depends: Depends on where your pain/injury was - if you were struck at the waist, it's unlikely to be your kidney, which typically is situated higher up.  If your pain is severe/persistent, you should see a physician for further evaluation.

It depends: If it is a very recent problem try Advil or Aleve (naproxen) and apply heat to the area. If it is a longstanding problem have it evaluated.

Back pain can be a : result of other issues causing pain to be referred to the back like: kidney stones, ulcers, urinary tract infections, gallbladder issues, ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy as well as certain vascular conditions to name a few.   If symptoms are persistent or worsening, see your physician.  Note that back pain is a fairly common problem too.

Ice and rest: Try to rest &amp; apply ice 2 to 3x/ day for about 15 minutes. I know it's cold, but helpful. Use a towel/cloth as barrier to protect the skin. If you don't have a contraindications to anti-inflammatories (allergy, stomach ulcer, gastritis, kidney problems), you can try Aleve (naproxen) for the pain. Read the label, take with food/ milk and stop if pain in stomach develops. If not improving see a doctor.
