Fix pump?: It depends on how well you think your pain was managed when the pump was working. Unless it gave you very significant relief i probably would not advocate to have it fixed. I would have a conversation with you pain doctor about realistic expectations.

Have : Have you considered using medical acupuncture as an adjunct to your other forms of treatment?   Acupuncture; which has been practiced for several thousand years in china; is commonly used in many european countries as well. There is a marked growth of md's and do's practicing acupuncture in the United States. There are a number of acupuncture modalities to treat chronic and acute pain. 
   The needles used in acupuncture are extremely thin. In comparision with needles used to draw blood or to give shots, the diameter is much smaller.    Acupuncture works by encouraging the movement of energy, blood and nourishment in the body.  An acupuncture treatment plan incorporates procedures that are specific for your health problems.  This may be a beneficial addition to the treatment that you are already receiving.

Neurontin (gabapentin) : Neurontin (gabapentin) or lyrics which are nerve medications often work well for sciatica.  I would recommend seeing your primary care doctor for assessment and treatment.  If sciatica does not respond to medications it may improve with steroid injections or surgery.   I recommend you seeing my health guide on lumbar disk herniations and sciatica.  Good luck!

i am 50 years old and am experiencing maintaining an erection.  could this be related to my pain medication? i am currently taking tramadol and gabapentin for low back pain and neuropathy.  i am also on pantoprozaole sp? for grd.

Possibly, : Possibly, but many other things can cause similar conditions, including diabetes, coronary artery disease, stress, etc.

A few options: I usually choose Gabapentin or Oxcarbazepine to treat nerve pain.

Nerve Pain: Docs might recommend medications such as neurontin, lyrica, (pregabalin) or gralise.  Cymbalta, a medication normally used for depression, has also been used for nerve pain.  These medications require monitoring by your physician.

Nerve pain: Neurontin (gabapentin) taken 3 or 4 times daily is more potent than Amitriptyline low dose taken once at night.

Better glucose contr: Better glucose control may help nerve pain, but pain can actually temporarily worsen as glucose normalizes, and then it improves. Otherwise, it is too late and the damage has been done. Unless it improves with glucose control, there is not other treatment than medication.

Queries: Do you have a diagnosed peripheral neuropathy, as that could cause these symptoms?  Key item is to uncover cause of "nerve pain", and treat the underlying issue.  Medications for pain treat symptoms, not cause.
