Find a medical geneticist, often on staff at a Children's hospital or medical school. They can sort through your family history &amp; medical records to find which risk would apply to your case as well as any general risks of other conditions.

Hard to say: S/he could survive with aggressive treatment to a life of disability and frequent medical procedures. It could also die of the related infection by such an aggressive germ.

Hydrocephalus: A combination of both hydrocephalus and spina bifida is not good. The ability to walk is related to the level of neurological injury and in this case it appears to go to the hips. Independent walking with braces very unlikely but may change in the future as more mechanical devices are designed to assist in walking.

Yes: Children with hydrocephalus can have a normal life. Some have brain issues because of the hydrocephalus. Shunt placement has at least a 10% incidence of shunt infection. Proper treatment usually results in resolution of the infection and shunt may need to be changed.

Excess fluid in head: Hydrocephalus is the greek word for "waterhead"; it is caused by accumulation of excess fluid intracranially from a variery of disorders (spina bifida, aqueductal stenosis, infections, bleeding, developmental anomalies). It compresses and deprives the developing fetal brain from adequate perfusion and can thus cause irreparable neurological injury and neurodevelopmental defects. Seek mfm care!

: The head circumference reading should be repeated by your pediatrician's office and pediatrician. Very often there is a reader to reader variability. Per the growth chart there has been a rapid increase, more than expected, and a follow up head ultrasound or imaging study may be indicated. Is the baby otherwise well? are the other growth parameters also changing rapidly? Watch for poor feeding.

Nope : It is highly unlikely to be causal,   you probably had some short acting anesthetics and narcotic pain relievers during your stay, hydrocephalus in babies has a variety of causes, most often prematurity,  but very often is " idiopathic" meaning we don't know the exact cause.   Hope you and the baby are well!

baby boy's head measured 35.5cm at birth, 36.5cm at 2 weeks and 39cm at 1 month. it was measured by 3 different people. doctor said his head feels normal but she will recheck at his 2 month appt. worried of possible hydrocephalus?

: Besides to the difference in the measurer's technique, your baby's head circumferences at those times are within normal limits so I think your concern is not worth it. Furthermore, you should not worry about something which you can't help to affect the outcome at this time.
