Cough: In addition push fluids but not milk . Elevate the child' mattress when sleeping. Use a bulb syringe before using the nose drops. Use fever medicine if necessary.

Depends on . . .: Babies ages 3-12 months can easily catch colds from other people. If there is just a runny nose, without much fussiness, without any high fever, without other worrisome symptoms, then parents can leave the nose alone. If the mucous is blocking the nose somewhat, try a few drops of saline, followed by gentle suctioning with a suction bulb. A doctor should examine younger or more symptomatic babies.

my son (15 months) has a mild cold. runny nose, cough and low grade fever. 100.8 recally. can i give echinacea for babies to get his though this better?

According : According to the national institute of health center for complimentary and alternative medicine, there is no evidence that shows that echinacea is protective against illness or speeds recovery.  It was a very popular supplement 5 years ago, but as research started to show that it was ineffective in a adults and especially children, it began to fall out of favor.  I would not recommend using it children.

The best methods for treating congestion in an infant/toddler are saline nasal drops, nasal suctioning with a bulb syringe and a cool or warm mist humidifier. There are no safe cough or cold medications for children under 4 years of age.

If your child seems to be having difficulty breathing, call their doctor right away.

Anytime a child has difficulty breathing (respiratory distress), they need immediate medical attention. The signs of respiratory distress are:

-rapid breathing (more than 60 times a minute) 
-grunting or gasping with breathing 
-flaring of the nostrils 
-working hard and using extra muscles to breathe such as sucking in at the neck or under the rib cage 
-blue or dusky coloring 
-change in speech or level of alertness.

Postnasal drip: If he doesn't have a fever and is playful is likely allergic postnasal drip or viral. Can use saline solution if baby gets fussy and has some pain in throat can use Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen  if develops fever take to doctor. Temp 100.4 or higher

It happens: If the kid is taking fluids well enough to wet diapers every 6-8 hours &amp; be playful some it is likely something you can monitor at home. Kids this age are expected to get 5-7 URI's/yr and many last a week to ten days. If the kid spooks you by seeming worse, have it evaluated.

Kindly see his doctor: what you described could just be minor viral upper respiratory tract infection, but being there for a week with the development of fever requires medical evaluation, good luck
