Verify/age adjust: The primary issue is to verify a treatable problem is there. Some are viral &amp; would self heal. Some are just fluid that is benign. Some have a puss collection that needs help with antibiotics, If needed, these are selected and dosed based on the kids age &amp; allergy profile.

Ear infections: Antibiotics cure susceptible bacterial infections. They do not do anything to viruses. Many children with ear infections will heal well without antibiotics.  This is something to discuss with the pediatrician--the child's age, general state, and access to medical care all come into play in making treatment decisions.

Depends: You did not provide the age or number. A general mantra is 5 in 1 yr or 1 that won't clear in 90 days deserves tubes. The primary reason kids remain infected is poor drainage of middle ear mucous through the natural Eustachian tubes. Head growth with age solves this in most but a few need tubes to break the cycle. The thick mucous is removed during tube placement.

Doubt chickenpox: CPx usually starts as small bumps that grow into blisters and drain over several hours.They usually begin around the neck, appearing on the trunk and limbs later. They come in waves of new spots for 5-6 days.  These red spots may be related to any medication baby is on or something else.

Pain & hearing Loss: Anyone can get an ear infection. There are three types:1) outer - very painful and ear is tender to touch 2) middle - pain in ear but outer ear not tender to touch with decreased hearing 3) inner - usually no pain at all - can cause dizziness/hearing loss.

No: Ear infections are common and many children have one or two in the first two years. If they are becoming recurrent, than I am concerned and want more information. Often diet can be a factor, or starting daycare, or if you moved to a new location. Garlic and willow drops (or garlic and mullein or garlic and goldenseal) in the ear as drops can help alleviate pain.
