Check with doc first: If she truly has milk allergies, you may want to check with doc about using elemental formula such as nutramigen or alimentum etc...Soy is also an option, but i would check with her doc first. These may help with her reflux as well. If not, med such as Prevacid or Zantac (ranitidine) can be used for reflux etc..Thickening formular with rice cereal may help also. Consult doc...Good luck.

Elemental formula: Either neocate or elecare.  Both of these are elemental formulas that are made up of Amino Acids without the cow's milk or soy protein.

Unlikely: Infants are rarely if ever allergic to their mothers milk. They can be sensitive to something from your diet that filters through, but it seldom produces dramatic vomiting. If anything the cow milk solids in the formula is more likely to trigger allergic issues. You may want to find a breast feeding coach to see if there are techniques you can use that can help avoid this.

Skin test: The easiest way to tell if your baby is allergic to milk is to have your child skin tested by an allergist.  You will have an answer in 15 minutes.  To rely on their response to milk can often be confusing.

Hard to comment: True bovine milk allergy is rare &amp; only ~1/3 infants with eczema have a food associated allergy. No description of the rash was provided, so attributing it to the formula may not be valid. Any allergy induced rash can take weeks to clear even if it was due to the time needed for the offending material to exit the body &amp; time for skin recovery.

Milk: First, I would just try it. They might take to it, without a problem. If they reject that, then titrate. Start with 7oz formula and 1oz milk. After a few days, go to 6oz and 2oz, and so on. It's a good time to switch to a sippy, too. Also, don't forget to use whole milk (4%), from 1-2 yrs old.

Aspiration: The swallowing and breathing tubes use the same mouth and rely on a transitional structure called the epiglottis to close over the breathing tube and allow you to swallow food/fluids. If a baby is breathing in while the fluid is trying to go down, some can sneak passed the epiglottis and be inhaled into the lung. Luckily this rarely happens.

12 months of age: Breast milk and /or formula are best until the age of 12 months, at which time it is ok to change to whole or 2% (lowfat) milk.  It is ok to start babies on yogurt, however, with the rest of their solid foods prior to one year.
