See below: B-12 anemia is a deficiency in vitamin b-12 (cobalamin). Pernicious anemia is a deficiency or lack in intrinsic factor (produced by cells in the stomach) which is a protein essential for absorption of vitamin B12 in the ileum (small intestine). Pernicious anemia requires replacement of intrinsic factor &/or b-12. B-12 anemia needs only b-12 supplementation.

Can you clarify?: If you have pernicious anemia and aren't effectively treated, you will first lose your mind and then your life. If by "B12 intolerance" you simply mean you cannot absorb the vitamin orally, this is common and you'll need monthly injections. If you believe that the supplement makes you sick -- as it claimed on some "pop" websites -- I'm skeptical but you'll need to get specialist consultation.

Vit b12: if you have pernicious anemia- and you do not take replacement of vit B12- your vitamin b12 obviously will continue to go down . anemia, weakness, fatigue, memory problem, forgetfulness , neuropathy, dementia can happen with significant vitamin b12 deficiency- and those can become permanent if you do not take supplement of vit b12. what do you mean by intolerance? you can get via IM, sublingual .

Low vitamin B12.: pernicious  anemia is a LOW vitamin B12 state. This occurs when the body fails to make enough of a specific protein to enable the body to absorb vitamin B12.  This usually occurs when the immune system attacks a specific cell in the stomach that produces the needed protein. Since the body can't absorb vitamin B12 through the stomach it can be given in a shot and even under the tongue.

Alternatively, just a high dose orally often works; commonly the case that even without intrinsic factor, a large enough daily oral intake, including quality OTC versions, can overcome the absorption problem &amp; may be the least expensive route. Thus don&#x27;t focus on the money accumulators (insurance), not the wisest option.

Diagnosis confirmed?: Some people with PA can absorb some B12 orally, just not efficiently. Furthermore, B12 can last a while in the body before being depleted. If B12 is administered as injection intermittently, that may be enough to keep levels normal.
