Usually is: Lymph nodes are located throughout the body & generally noticable in exposed areas like the neck. They are usually pea sized at rest and enlarged when stimulated by bug bites, dermatitis, drainage or infection. They rarely can become damaged by infection & grow to golf ball size & need drainage or removal. Most enlarge and later shrink back down within a 3 wk cycle unless chronically stimulated.

Picky eaters: Picky eating habits will drive most parents crazy.At 22m their growth rate has slowed to ~5lb/3inch/yr which is much slower than earlier.Feeding matches need. Most feed well 4days a month & nibble the rest.Single item days are common(breads, vegies, etc) & a balanced week is more common than a balanced meal. If you only offer nutritious choices, they will get what they need.Discuss with your dr too.

??Concern??: There are many aboriginal cultures that strictly breast feed up to 2y before graduating the infant to the tribal foods. These cultures seem to thrive so we know it can be done. The problem comes with the lack of interest adding new foods as expected with older kids. Bm is superior up to a yr/but afterward the nurturing is the prime benefit. If kid will let that go it is ok to move along.

i heard my 22 month old may be drinking too much milk? he drinks 36 oz  day .he has a healthy weight, and iron count, and does not get constipated. not sure if i should limit his milk consumption?

Variety/balance: As long as he is growing and developing normal and has no lab indication of anemia or nutritional problems his milk intake is unlikely to cause health problems. It is important though at this age to introduce a variety of foods from all four food groups, including lean sources of protein other than milk. Some examples are skinless chicken or fish if there are no allergies to these foods.

22 month old has had 2 loose poos today, the second was pitch black. she hasn't had anything different in her diet and is not on meds. she seems happy?

Probably normal: Pitch black stools can come from bleeding in the upper GI tract.  Some meds, like pepto bismal, can cause it.  Usually, however, it's just some black pigment produced by some of teh normal bacteria.  If it persists see your md.

Child may visit: Yes, but i assume by this time she's been on antibiotics and is on the road to recovery.

Day Care?: Studies have demonstrated that a toddler in day care settings may get an infection of some kind an average of every 3 weeks! this is as their immune system is maturing. Does this apply in your case? If so it is unfortunately normal.

persistent (3 months) cough in 22 month old. is it asthma?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: There are several things that can cause a persistant cough(asthma, reflux - heartburn and others). I presume your child is not in distress. And that he/she has been examined by your pediatrician..In that case i would recommend seeing an allergist..To take a full history(including family history of allergies/asthma) and examination. Several possible medications can be tried. That should be helpful.
