Anaphylaxis: A true allergic reaction is that where even the smallest dose of an "allergen" causes a full blown organ system shut down, Rash, wheezing to Shortness of breath, dysrhythmias to Ventricular fibrillation, total renal shut down. Supportive measures, epinephrine and anti-allergen (reversal) needs to be given.
This can happen with any substance introduced into the body not recognized as "self".

the anaesthesiologist says im severely allergic to morphine. my dentist says im moderately allergic to prilocaine, benzocaine  and forte ( with epinephrine).
will having these allergies present a problem in taking astrazeneca vaccine?

: None of these ingredients are in or related to the Covid vaccine. However, anyone who has had an allergic reaction to a medication is generally observed for a longer period of time after the vaccine to be sure.

i have allergy to benzocaine. this week i had a rxn to a dental anesthetic, swelling of cheek & throat. how long should i take benadryl?  need tests?

Allergy: Should not have any of the caine medications. next time could have anaphylaxis. Most safe way to test is with an allergist. Consider getting Epipen. Benadryl may help in the first 48 hours.

painful blisters in mouth & vagina due to bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) allergy. ok to put benzocaine cream on outer vag, offers a little relief. what else can i use? help!

Symptomatic relief: is best after discussion with your PCP or doctor. Make sure this is documented in your chart as ALLERGY TO BACTRIM/SULFAS. The symptomatic relief is perhaps the best, like ice chips, no hot, spicy, foods. Keep it bland, hydrating, easy to digest as your entire throat may also be affected down to your gut. Tepid, soothing, nonstinging baths like Aveeno (oatmeal) may be helpful. No chemical shampoos or soaps.

Not Exactly: What is passed genetically from parent to child is the propensity to develop atopy (such as eczema, asthma, allergic rhinitis, food allergies) but usually not sensitization to specific allergens which the parent is allergic to.  The exception, which is a controversial topic, is drug allergies, but this is usually dependent on metabolism of the drug which is inherited rather than the allergy.

No: The condition of being allergic is certainly an inherited property.  Often, that tendancy is greater in children whose biological mother has allergies.  However, specific allergy is generally not thought to be inherited.  That is, a parent can be allergic to food, and their children allergic to pollen or insect stings.

Lots of Stiuff: Fortified soy milk for beginners.  Dark leafy greens like spinach, kale, turnips, and collard greens. Fortified orange juice. Sardines. Enriched breads, grains, and waffles.

Yes: Just please give the medication according exactly to the dosing and weight guidelines on the package. The allergy medicine is an antihistamine. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic (fever reducer) medication.

Sometimes: But not all the time. Nasal allergies are not a frequent cause of a really bad persistent cough. In a child with allergies and a really bad cough (assuming no fever) I would be concerned about a reactive airway/asthma type condition. If the child also had eczema I would be even more concerned.

my husband and i accidentally gave our 4 yr old son, who weighs 42lbs, a double dose of childrens benadryl (diphenhydramine) for his allergies (chewable tablets 12.5mg)?

??no numbers??: The only way for me to comment on the dose is if you list what you gave. Two 12.5 mg tabs in a 42 lb kid might make him groggy but shouldn't hurt in the long run.Four tabs would put him to sleep and he'd be out for a few hours. Luckily the med clears the body in 4-8 hours.
