i have a recurring bracial cleft cyst that has been treated with augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate).   now that the med has run its course i am experiencing extreme itching especially after showering.  i have been off the meds for 4 days.

Call physician: You may have a delayed hypersensitivity reaction. I would advise Benadryl- 2 tablets every 6 hrs. as needed and watching for signs of lip/facial swelling.

i have very bad smelling urine,my gp said i have an ovarian cyst, she gave me augmentin 1000mg and the odour started post those anti-biotics.

Ovarian cyst?: An ovarian cyst does not cause "bad smelling" urine. A urinary tract infection can but needs to be documented before treatment. An ultrasound  and/or GYN MD pelvic exam can confirm the absence or presence of an ovarian cyst. Get a 2nd opinion from a GYN MD.

Salmonella treatment: The antibiotic susceptibility of Salmonella (and many other bacteria) varies widely from one part of the world to others. You'll need to check with your brother's doctor or someone else in your city or village for advice about which antibiotic(s) are likely to be effective. There is no way for anyone else to accurately predict this. Sorry.

I'd use Augmentin: Success is unlikely with either because these usually need to be drained. However, Augment in has broader coverage for the type of germs involved &amp; less (but some) potential for GI side effects.

Some possibilities: The usual possible reasons a person taking an antibiotic for bronchitis does not see her bronchitis resolve include:  her pills labelled Augmentin are not really Augmentin, the dose is too low, it's too soon for improvement, her bronchitis is not caused by bacteria, the bacteria are resistant to Augmentin, there is a second lung problem in addition to bronchitis, what looks like bronchitis is not.

7 days: 7 days is the recommended time to take any antibiotic. This is to prevent the bacteria not being erradicated completely and to prevent the bacteria becoming resistant to that antibiotic

forgot to refrigerate augmentin suspension for 24 hours when we first got it. is it ok to use?

Accepted Answer

: Unfortunately, that happens a lot due to being distracted with a sick child. However, nothing has been reported from doing that. Technically the Augmentin can lose its potency if left out for a long time and the liquid can separate in the bottle. But 24 hours, nothing much happens.
