Questionable: When lymph nodes are examined it is to see if the are involved in an inflammatory process or have a primary or metastatic malignancy ongoing. Touch preps  may help to define the presence of abnormal  cells but if they do, immunohistochemistry is performed with a battery of monoclonals to see if a specific malignancy is present.  At times normal skin and glandular elements are found in nodes

More investigation: Atypical cells means that the pathologist saw cells that weren't definitive for cancer, but were abnormal. These can be due to a number of things (infection, poor fixation, radiation, cancer, etc.), but rendering this diagnosis either means the pathologist will do special tests to determine this or lets your clinician know they may need more tissue if they are still suspicious.

i'm having open biopsy of neck lymph node diagnosed with atypical by previous needle biopsy. is cancer likely to be found?

Not necessarily: More history would be helpful such as is there a past history of cancer anywhere or a current mass in your thyroid or any other part of your body?  "Atypical" findings on a fine needle biopsy can be secondary to inflammation and not malignancy.  However, excisional biopsy of the node is critical to rule out malignancy.  Good luck!

Diagnosis needed: What we need here is the 'cause' for your swollen lymph nodes. Hopefully your doctors are working hard to figure this out. Immunophenotyping is a technique used to study the protein expressed by cells - and therefore a way to 'identify' what cells they are and therefore 'what is' the disease process. Possible: Needle biopsy is considered insuficent to establish a diagnosis of lymphoma.  A 5 month hisotry of swollen lymph nodes with atypical cells seen on FNA warrents an excisional biopsy as this is likly lymphoma.

Unclear question: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your white cell count is okay. Red cell data would have meant more had you provided your hemoglobin level.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. 
Get HPV vaccine, if you are under 27 years of age.
