been taking atenolol 12.5mg for 3 weeks. doc said to stop. will there be withdrawal? when will leave my system? took 1 today at 7:30am

Yes: It takes a couple of days for it to be completely out of your system.  Not sure why you started and are stopping it.  When you stop it you might get a rebound of high blood pressure and heart rate but should not have any major effects as the dose is low.  The more important question is why you took it.

Don't know that: You are experiencing withdrawal symptoms per se...But more likely underlying condition is now unmasked.  An alternative medication to atenolol may be in order. Please discuss with your physician.

Heart rate: Wining atenolol should be done under a doctors supervision. Sudden changes or withdrawal can cause a rebound tachycardia

Not Much: Atenelol is a beta blocker, this family of medications are not used (in general ) for  treatment of alcohol withdrawal.  They  may help with peripheral symptoms of anxiety  such as tremor, tachycardia and high blood pressure. Other medications are more effective in treatment of alcohol withdrawal.

Heart rate: It is likely that the atenolol is causin your heart rate to be low and would call your doctor to consider lowering the dose

Best talk to MD: Medications we give like atenolol have limits, i.e., the heart rate and blood pressure. Chemicals or nutrients even have no limits until they are toxic. If you use magnesium, you can only know the extent of maximum dose when you develop toxicity and you don't want that. It is best to talk to your md about amounts of medicines you take.

: Perhaps you still need to be taking atenolol since you are having the described symptoms. The dose is a low dose so tapering is not always needed. How long did you take it? If you were taking it for a long time, perhaps a short taper would have been helpful or perhaps you need the atenolol for some other reason. Either way, you need to see your doctor to diagnose your symptoms and treat you.

never had heart problems until stopped taking atenolol for hyperthyroid (levels now normal). doc didnt say to wean as took low dose for 2 weeks. now i wake almost every hour with heart rate at 145 then slows down. withdrawal? will be doing holter?

: You should see the doctor who prescribed the atenolol. If the thyroid hasn’t been normal for very long, you may need to be on the  low dose atenolol for a bit longer. It is also possible the high heart rate is unrelated to the thyroid. A holter monitor would definitely help figure out how often your heart rate increases and how high it goes. Betablocker: Could be quite dangerous and should be considered an emergency. It may cause very low heart rate and blood pressure, leading to dizziness or passing out. If overdose is suspected, emergency medical care is advised.

Possible connection: It is possible that there is a connection.  If the nightmares are causing you distress then discuss the possibility of trying a different treatment with you doctor or other methods of  finding a cause and effect relationship.
