See your doctor: If she is having uncontrolled asthma, she needs to be on steroids, only your doctor can make that determination.

YEs it can: Many asthmatics have allergies to airborne things like pollen, dust, smoke and particulate matter (pollution). Make sure the purifier has a hepa filter and maintain it according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

Probably: Air purifier, especially one with hepa filter, should remove majority of allergens and triggers from the air. Important to clean/change filters per instructions. Follow allergist's other directions for environmental changes in home to reduce allergen load.

Room humidifier/meds: are you taking any antihistamine medication? I suggest a room humidifier to help and steam showers 4 times daily- deeply inhale the steam. Stop any and all antihistamines and review current meds with your physician

Difference: a dehumidifier extracts water from the circuklationg air.
An air filter contains micropore HEPA filters to catch spores, molds, dusts, pollens etc. Air filters work best for allergies.

Talk with your doc: As soon as you can. Asthma can start as an annoying cough but  can get worse so that it's hard for you to breathe. Different inhalers and pills can help heal your airways and prevent asthma. Also, you & your doc can figure out other causes of shortness of breath. Think about your surroundings [dust, animals, smoke, fumes, mildew/mold]. Any new triggers during the last 2 years? Hope this helps.

Usually: Dry (and cold) air is particularly bad for exercise induced asthma and that frequently causes cough.  Swimming was always said to be better than running for asthma, but now with public pools so highly chlorinated, that also often makes asthma worse.  For nasal allergies, the best way to humidify is to use saline nasal spray or flush.

Inflammation: Inflammation of the Bronchi (large tubes leading to your lungs) and Bronchioli (smaller tubes leading to your lungs) can cause difficulty expelling air. This inflammation can be caused by irritation, infection or medications. See your Dr for wheezing. They can often prescribe an antiinflammatory that targets the lung passages, helping you breathe easier.

i was diagnosed w/ bronchitis a week ago, and after taking 5 days of antibiotics, i dont have a cough anymore. however, now when i cough and phlegm comes out, i have to gasp for air for a few seconds. should i worry about an potential asthma attack?

: What you described does not induce a concern for asthma. You may do steam/vapor inhalation to loosen the phlegm so that it is easier to expectorate. Drink enough water so that your urine is mostly colorless, to make sure that you are fully hydrated.
