Certainly not normal: Aspiration can range from penetration of larynx with saliva or small amount of swallowed liquid (just irritates vocal cords a bit) to frank aspiration pneumonia (think of it as a non-infectious chemical burn of lungs from stomach acid). A modified swallow evaluation by Speech Therapy is a useful diagnostic step.

Saliva antibodies & proteins  are helpful in reducing dental bacteria & bacterial infections & also acts as a buffering agent which helps protect against the acid which would otherwise damage tooth enamel and lead to decay and tooth loss.

"specks" from foods can get stuck in throat mucous, as well as dust mixed in with nose mucus that drips onto the throat to become throat mucus, and can mix with saliva to look odd. A dr can evaluate.
