what is best alternative to armour thyroid to treat both t3 (liothyronine) and t4?  i received ra twice in past for graves disease, so am now very hypothyroid.

Armour Thyroid: Usually patients are converted to T4 (synthroid, levothroid, etc) because even though you are taking levothyroxine which is t4, some of that is converted to T3 (liothyronine) in the body.  It's is best to check with your endocrinologist to determine the best thyroid replacement for you.

tsh, t3, t4 all normal tpo antibodies are 2200. was told it's hashimotos and put on 15mg armour thyroid 3 months ago. i'm confused if the tsh is normal then why the armour? have all symptoms of hypothyroid. also now my period is 2 weeks late. ?

: The treatment is a pre-emptive measure as you are at risk of becoming hypothyroid. 
If you had sex since your last period, do a home pregnancy test for the missed period.

Doubtful: The T3 (liothyronine) test is not as reliable as the free T4 test and it is not rare to see patients with somewhat low or high T3 (liothyronine) levels whose thyroid is working properly.  If your total or free T4 and your TSH are normal I would not be concerned about your T3 (liothyronine). We mainly treat when TSH is elevated.

Brand Synthroid (thyroxine): Levothyroxine&amp;#40;LT4&amp;#41;=generic name for thyroid hormone. There are sev brands with Synthroid being best known &amp;#40;Levoxyl, Unithroid...&amp;#41;Each dose has about the same amount of LT4, but the FDA allows some variability. They also use diff fillers, which changes absorption. Tiny dose changes make a big diff in some people &amp; diff brands can be like a diff dose in some. If poss take the same brand each refill!

Possibly: Thyroid or pituitary gland abnormalities can cause hyperhidrosis. Is it the whole body (>100 cm2) or just in the armpits, soles or palms?  Perhaps thyroid replacement hormone can help with the hyperhidrosis. However, this is not a guarantee. Mercury exposure, diabetes, and even gout can result in hyperhidrosis.

Low tsh: If you only needed thyroid supplement, your tsh would be elevated. Since your tsh is not elevated and your thyroid hormones are low,there could be a problem with your pituitary gland. An endocrinologist is best qualified to evaluate,advise and treat you and more than thyroid supplement may be needed. Appropriate tests will be ordered.

i am a 37 y/o female who has been feeling serious fatigue. my tsh is 1.5, free t3 (liothyronine) is 2.5, and my free t4 is .5. should i be treated for hypothyroidism?

Hypothyroidism: The most sensitive study for hypothyroidism is the TSH as a rule. Not knowing the standards for the laboratory makes decision making difficult but your labs appear normal based on standards that I am familiar. Other causes for your symptoms must be persued.

on my thyroid panel  test t4. t3 (liothyronine) uptake, fti are normal. but, my tsh is too low. whats that mean? been getting treated for hypothyroidism for 2 yrs.

Low TSH: while on thyroid medication indicates  getting more thyroid replacement than needed. Usually the treating physician may decrease the dosage. While on treatment TSH is the best gauge of level of  treatment

Side effects: If taking too much can cause: nervousness, tremor, cramps, diarrhea, changes in menstrual cycle, insomnia, headache, sweating or arrhythmias.

Ignorance!: Doctors are taught that most people only need to be given T4 as our bodies convert T4 to t3 (liothyronine). This is true for some, but many people don't make that conversion adequately. In my experience almost all patients on thyroid benefit from taking t3 (liothyronine) as well as T4 (or natural thyroid which has both).
