i have sporadic stabbing pain near my ovaries throughout my entire menstrual cycle that cause me to keel over. i also have extreme period pain and back aches that can be debilitating for hours before nsaids help. do i need to see an obgyn?

Painful menses: Your very painful menstrual periods may be caused by endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to that of the inside of the uterus, implants in tissues outside of the uterus. It affects up to 10 % of women. It certainly can impact your lifestyle. It can be treated. Consult a gynecologist for evaluation and treatment for whatever the problem is.

Yes: Try: omega- 3 fatty acids or magnesium (supplementation or through diet) with your doctor’s approval.   Nsaid'scan help with pain.  If you desire non-med approaches you can discuss use of a traditional herbal like black cohosh with your doctor.  Chamomile tea can be soothing. Sipping green tea can also dissipate pain. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, extra salt. Acupuncture is excellent for dysmenorrhea.

i have had the implant in my arm for my period since july this year the period pain has settled but i bleed for 3weeks  is this normal?

Yes : Hopefully, the bleeding will stop. You may need some birth control pills for a month or two to settle things down.

Yes: I bet that you have pms and probably crave sugar, chocolate or salt pm. If this applies, get rid of it. A multivitamin might help.

Accepted Answer

Ibuprofen: Ibuprofen, such as advil (ibuprofen) or motrin, should help with the pain.  Bleeding is likewise normal, however if you are becoming anemic, you might need a multivitamin and/or iron supplementation.  See your physician for an exam and diagnosis.

Sounds ok: A 3 days cycle followed by some old bloody discharge sounds fairly normal. If you are not happy with your level of cycle control there are many birth control options that can lighten and shorten the menstrual cycle.

Blood: Each woman's period can have different patterns.  The dark brown blood may simply be older blood being cleaned from the uterus.  Are you saying that you are also experiencing period pain, late period and pain with urination?

Yes, YES!: What you describe is very normal.  No law says one breast is equal to the other.  Just like we have one side of our face better for selvies than the other!  The pain resolves with menstruation, you have nothing to worry about.

: This is a strange co-relation and probably not related. However if it persists consult your MD for further evaluation by exam and tests.

Occurs monthly: Colloquialisms are odd. Since menses occur about every 28 days in human females, there is a periodicity to them. It's an older term meaning regularly occurring. So one gets a period means its that time of the month for the periodic shedding of endometrial tissue absent a fetal implantation.
