: At your age some recession is normal, but not considerable recission. Hereditary thin, fragile, or insufficient gingival tissue predisposes one to gingival recession. An electric sonic toothbrush is fine to use but make sure you have a soft or extra soft brush and use with not a lot of pressure. Use a Waterpik before or after you brush.

It does not say whether or not you have HIV:  for that you need an HIV antibody or antigen-antibody test, which you also can discuss with your doctor. Unless your wife had an especially high risk partner (e.g. and HIV infected gay man or injection drug user), the chance you have HIV is near zero. Good luck.
