A quick pull on a little string to pull it out of the urethra, or by using a flexible scope to enter the bladder and pulling out the stent with forceps. Both can cause bladder discomfort and some flank pain as it is quickly removed. Some residual pain can linger for a day or two. Pain can be variable with many feeling no pain.

Pain can last: The pain from irritation clotted blood and spasm can be just as painful as the stone itself.  Drink plenty of fluid.  Some patients need to return to the ER for Pain control.

Just don't worry: the purpose of the stent is severed ,  your doctor will just pull the string to remove the it . some need mild sedation brave one like you may not need one ! and few days of discomfort  and burning  Drink plenty of water . Ask your doctor before removal .

Some, but tolerable: Post-procedure ureteral stent can be removed by patient or urologist if a thread for self-pulling is attached, or by urologist under local anesthesia through cystoscope if no thread is attached to stent.  Attaching a thread or not depends on how long the stenting is needed; if 1-2 weeks or longer, use non-threaded stent so to avoid accidental pull..

Stents and pain: Stents aren't always uncomfortable. They come in different lengths and diameters. Even when properly sized and placed, some patients have pain. Most experience urinary frequency, urgency or blood in the urine until the stent is removed. Others have absolutely no discomfort. There are a few patients who have kidney stone type pain (colic) with a stent in. It's not common.

Trauma: The painful urination is likely due to the stent removal.  Its not a completely uncomplicated event.  Was it urethral or ureteral?  I would go back to the urologist.

: Not clear from your post if the stent was significantly pulled outward.  There are good reasons for the stent to remain for several days.  Contact your doctor and let her (him) know what has happened, as a direct exam may be helpful.

Several causes.: The presence of a stent in the urinary tract can cause irritation to the lining of the ureter and bladder causing bleeding. Tumors, besides obstructing, can bleed if they cause any erosion of the ureteral lining. If you are passing large clots and blood, a known risk of stents is the development of a communication between a blood vessel and the ureter. Please see your physicians for evaluation.
