should xray tech require patient to wear protective shield during a neck xray, because mine did not just wondering if shield is required because i worry about exposure to radiation

The : The use of a protective shield for for patients during an xray is very typical in most x-ray departments and is typically mandated by regulations administered by the state you are in. Usually the only shielding for the patient that is required is to shield the patient's reproductive organs if theorgansare in the path of the xray beam. During a neck x-ray, the beam would not be near the reporductive organs, so unless mandated by organizational policy, would not be necessary. This is because the xray beam is focused on the neck and the possible radiation exposure to the patient, due to radiation that scatters after the image is taken, is very minimal.

at dentist's,when getting digital xrays,machine was working but then stopped.was i still getting radiation as tech pushed button but no xray was made?

Probably not: There are many failsafe mechanisms on x-ray machines. If it shut down no radiation should have been produced. You most likely did not have any excess exposure. If you are concerned it would be reasonable to go talk to your dentist about what happened.

what's the difference between a radiographer, a radiation therapist and a nuclear medicine tech?i'm from australia and i am wondering for university.

1st is a person who: Takes x rays; a radiation therapist is a person who works with a radiation oncologist to give precise doses of radiation for the different cancers ( for treatment);
the nuc med tech is one who works in x ray dept giving radioactive meds for bone scans etc. ( done for diagnostic purposes).

Not enough to worry: A single CT does not produce enough radiation to cause any harm. You would receive more radiation at the beach .

how much cost/how much radiation on new ct scans would coronary calcium scan be on the whole body? could this be done with new tech x-ray and no ct?

Very small amount: However, a coronary calcium scan should only be done in the presence of intermediate or high risk of having coronary artery disease, Asymptomatic individuals without at least 3 risk factors for coronary artery disease (Diabetes, Hypertension, tobacco use, elevated cholesterol, Obesity, etc.) have a very high likelihood of having a falsely positive scan, thus rendering an abnormal scan unreliable.

i had a ct of head and neck with contrast. i was pushed under ct scan. tech said would be about three minutes but i was under it for 20 minutes.they inserted contrast and was out.is this normal?could they have left radiation on by error? why so long?

: Positioning for the best possible study takes time and remains the most time consuming party of specialty exams The actual time on for the CT study using modern equipment is a few minutes per study (ie. with or without contrast). They do not "leave the machine on" for positioning and do not rush the patient out after a study.

i am female and had 3 xrays to my neck to look for a pinched nerve. i did not have a shield on my breasts bc tech said it may block some of what xray showed.was the radiation that i received possibly to my breasts dangerous for causing breast cancer?

No worries: Three neck x-rays causes no change to a person's lifetime cancer risk. Generally, if the benefit of finding a disease or cure outweighs the tiny risks from the imaging, it's ok to do. To reduce one's cancer risk, keep a healthy weight and exercise (at least 30 minutes, 5 days a week). Eat lots vegetables and limit one's intake of red meat, or burned or charbroiled meat.

a tech pressed very hard on the rib under the l side of my l breast in an echo-stress test.have had pain/bruise there (41/2 months).my pcp wants me to have a diagnostic mammogram.does this mammogram need more radiation/views than screening mammogram?
