Torn menscuc: The meniscus is a cartilage cushion that sits between the femur and the tibia and acts as somewhat of a shock absorber.  Each knee has a medial and lateral meniscus; and when they tear they can cause pain, swelling, and catching.  They can be fixed arthroscopically by repair or shaving with good results.

Usually not: A meniscus tear is an injury to the cartilage that pads the knee joint.  Regular xrays are helpful to rule out other causes of your pain i.e. Fracture), but the best imaging test is an MRI of the knee.

i have discoid meniscus w/o tear (mri xray and surgeon 2nd opinion) so when it does tear how will the pain progress. does workout increase tear poss?

May: If it is a small tear you may not even feel it...If the tear is large than it can cause locking or buckling of your knee and that can be painfull.  Working out does not increase possibilty of tear.

my knee feels full and stiff with light pain on top of the knee went and got a xray everything was normal but then my foot got numb so i went to the er and they said it was pfps but i dont know could if be a meniscus tear because im not in a lot of pain j

Get evaluated: Knee pain can have multiple causes including but not limited to trauma, infection, inflammation, and neoplasm. A thorough history and physical followed by diagnostic imaging can help get the answers and treatment you might need.  Meniscal pathology is common and can cause some of the symptoms you are experiencing but not foot numbness.

That would depend: On where the osteophyte was located and which retinaculum was torn. The fact a cavus foot is present has no bearing.

Generally,: finding a meniscal tear and bone spurs on a knee MRI doesn't require a bone scan for further evaluation.  There must be something else they are concerned about, but it is difficult to speculate with limited information.  Talk to your doctor about why the bone scan is needed.

can you tell buy an x-ray alone if you have a torn meniscus in your knee?

Not a good test: Meniscal tears are among the most common knee injuries. The nature of complaints, with confirming physical exam by the physician are useful in making a diagnosis.  Plain knee x-rays are best for bony abnormalities and do not show soft tissue injuries like meniscal tears.  The standard imaging is magnetic resonance imaging, which can create better images of the soft tissues of your knee joint.

x-ray and mri show significant hole in back of kneecap. wasn't there 5 months ago during meniscus repair surgery. any thoughts?

Compare photos: U may have had some 'early' chondromalacia( wear) of your patella 6 months ago and it has progressed or you have had a more significant injury . Make sure your ors has checked your patellofemoral mechanics and tracking. Most ors have photos of your previous"scope" that can be compared to your (upcoming presumably) scope where the lesion can be assessed for progression. Best of luck!

2 yrs after meniscus repair.having sharp pain, not lessened by otc drugs/ice.  swelling persists since surgery for entire 2 yrs/ xray showed nothing.

Repeat MRI: Possible re-tear vs failure of repair if procedure was truly meniscal repair. Repeat MRI would seem reasonable at this point. Discuss with your orthopedist.
