hello, my husband was just diagnosed with sleep apnea.  however my daughter had the same symptoms (snoring, periodic paused breathing) and they found that she had enlarged adenoids and tonsils.  they did surgery to remove them and she's been fine ever sin

Physician visit: The sleep study will indicate the degree and possible cause of apnea. Your sleep physician will help you to determine the cause and treatment. Some options may include non invasive ventilation.

Many causes: Gastroesophageal reflux has been associated with apnea. Sometimes the reflux  causes spasm of vocal cords and sometimes apnea.On ranitidine for reflux but slow gastric emptying can cause worse reflux. Snoring means some degree of obstruction to airway such as large adenoids and tonsils. This enlargement is occurring earlier than before.Apnea of prematurity is related to neurologic underdevelopment.

when i nap, sometimes my breathing becomes so shallow, then stops altogether but i am conscious of it happening & am 100% relaxed. can this be apnea?

May be: As described, it sound like you may be getting some type of apnea.  Get a sleep study to definitively diagnose your sleeping issues.

Don't see why not: I can't imagine the magnetic aspect of your mattress would interfere with the operation of your CPAP machine.  Shouldn't be a problem.

Stopped breathing: Yes.  Go to a sleep lab for testing.

Sleeping apnea: you may be breathing just fine when you are awake, but when you go into deep sleep you may not be breathing deeply enough to keep your oxygen to adequate levels.

Not common: The question is;  what kind of testing is being done to determine that you are not breathing during sleep "once a month?"  is this by your significant other?  I agree with other doctors- see a sleep specialist.  May be an underlying disease or problem unrelated to sa.

Sleep apnea: Stopping breathing while sleeping is almost invariably caused by sleep apnea. Other causes would be things like stroke or seizure (which could potentially be life threatening). If you have concerns, see a pulmonologist and get a sleep study.

if i quit breathing 7 times an hour during a sleep study is that considered mild sleep apnea?

Yes: Yes, an apnea- hypopnea index (ahi) between 5-15 is considered mild.
