how does a person know if their overactive bladder is due to anxiety or physical causes? if it were due to anxiety, would urination happen even it was after drinking fluids?

Doctor can evaluate: People who pee more often than desirable can see their primary care doctors for advice and treatment. A doctor will look for the common causes of such issues. Of course, anybody who pees too often will have anxiety (unless it doesn't bother the person to be peeing so often, such as in a 1 year-old). So, that means the issue can be both psychological and physical combined.

went from 10mg to 20 mg lexapro per md. took for 1 month/had worse anxiety /frequent urination, like polyuria i think. went back to 10 per orders. now seems like the urination is maybe a little better like every few days i have a lot. med related?

: If you're passing relatively small amounts of urine during urinary frequency, it may be due to the side effect of incomplete emptying of your bladder that SSRIs like lexapro can cause. This incomplete emptying of the bladder usually causes urinary frequency.  Polyuria is actually the passing of huge amounts of very dilute urine.

See a therapist.: The obvious answer s to treat the anxiety through psychotherapy or medication. I would definitely try to alleviate the anxiety through progressive relaxation techniques and behavior modification before you try medications.

Yes: Anxiety needs to be controlled.  Talk with your Doctor to find the cause and determine the treatment.

Several poss causes: Post void dribbling in a female can sometimes merely be related routine being retained in your vagina after voiding then will run out afterward giving you his symptom. Other causes include incomplete bladder emptying , overactive spastic bladder, or a urethral diverticulum . A urology evaluation may be needed. Yes anxiety is one cause of urinary frequency

lately, i've been needing to urinate a lot, sometimes twice in an hour. somedays i seem to urinate normally & some days a lot. can this be anxiety related? and when & what symptoms should cause me to start getting concerned?

: yes it can. Try drinking moderate amt. of water every day and try to hold urne for a few minutes after the first urge. if symptoms persist see your MD for a urine exam.. I think you will be O.K. by yourself.

after i finish urinating, i always feel like there's a bit more that needs to come out. so i stay on the toilet and after every few seconds, a few more drops come out.  i eventually just get up, unsatisfied. what can be the cause? could it be anxiety?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. Wish you good health!

SSRIs: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (ssris) can be effective in the treatment of both anxiety disorders and premature ejaculation. Anxiety disorders can also immensely benefit from psychotherapy.

why do i need to urinate 8 to 12 times a day is it anxiety , i've got no diabetes ?

Possibly: How much fluid do you consume in a day?  Have you been evaluated by a doctor?  This can have physical causes other than diabetes, such as an infection.  Anxiety can also cause frequent urination.  Discuss this with your primary care physician.

what's the maximum a bladder can hold? i'm urinating very frequently and it is not a lot of urine. i think it may be anxiety but don't know.

All sizes possible: There is no one max capacity. And it's often not being full, but other chemical things. Anxiety may be a part and it has chemicals too. Even if it sounds backwards - increase the amt of water you drink. It will help flush out bad stuff. If it lasts, it may be a UTI (common) - see your Dr for a lab test  and Tx if needed. Discuss skills w/ your therapist too. Don't worry, but do it!
