can anxiety medication cause nightmares?

It depends: It depends what kind of medication you are taking.  Seroquel (quetiapine) is sometimes used to treat anxiety and it is known to cause bizarre dreams and nightmares.  Talk to your doctor about what you are experiencing and have your medications evaluated. Some nightmares might be due to anxiety and more medication might be needed instead of less. Yes: This is called "rem rebound".  Dreaming mostly happens during rem (rapid eye movement) sleep, and rem is suppressed by many anxiety medications.  Weaning off such meds results in a temporary over-activity of rem, sometimes causing nightmares, or at least more memorable, vivid dreams.  It usually doesn't last long, and is harmless aside from being disturbing & interrupting sleep.

can upping a dose for anxiety medication cause anxiety till the the body is use to the bigger dose? i switched from 10mg buspirone once a day to 20mg and its been 3 days now and my anxiety is getting better but its been bad since the dose was upped?

: Your question is not clear. Dose of medication is increased when symptoms are not under control. Because anxiety is the underlying problem, you are probably anxious more when you know the dose needs to be increased. However, if the new dose is effective, you will eventually be fine.

Were you previously: Performing well in math and now have  reduction in performance? Poorer math skills could actually be related to feeling anxious. Is your medication sedating ?  If yes, it can be difficult to focus if you are drowsy. Discuss with your doctor.

Many alternatives: Benzo's can be used for social anxiety, however you should talk with your doctor about one of the SSRI's, most of which are indicated for anxiety, and about whether adding CBT might also be helpful for you.  Neither class of medications is particularly damaging to your liver, however there are risks with all medications and again, you should talk to your doctor about your specific concerns.

is it normal for lexapro 10mg to cause extreme exhaustion in the first 1.5 weeks? i am having to nap mid day but also taking a klonopin. i need the anxiety medication but cannot handle the fatigue coming with one of the two medications?

Buspirone: Buspar (buspirone) is a non- benzodiazepine anti-anxiety medication and would be a good alternative for a fast acting anti-anxiety med outside of the benzo class.
