i have a very oily skin. by early afternoon my skin looks like a mirror! oil control lotions seems fairly ineffective. is medication my only solution?

Oily skin: Sometimes when we have oily skin, our first inclination is to wash it with  cleanser more frequently.  But that often serves to dry out the skin more frequently, which causes your skin to become more oily.  It becomes a hard to break cycle.  If you think you're getting acne from the excessive oil, it might be good to at least talk with your doc about options - it doesn't mean you have to use them.

i am very fair skin and tanned in sun for first time in years with baby lotion. i now have tiny red spots (not raised or bumps)on my upper and lower legs . i use risnia, exsira and trazadone medications. ?

Allergy: This is likely an allergic reaction from sun exposure.  Should disappear on its own.

Ceramide Lotions: Especially if you have sensitive, dry skin, daily application of a fragrance-free, oil-free moisturizing lotion (cerave) will promote normal desquamation and exfoliation of the epidermis.  In addition, it contains ceramide that will reduce insensible water loss and enhance the barrier function and epidermal and dermal water content.

By now...: ...I'm sure you realize that you can't make a 12-year-old do much of anything he doesn't want to do. Nobody likes to feel powerless, including children; refusing to do what you ask gives him a feeling of power, and unless the dry skin bothers him enough he'll probably continue to refuse. If you can persuade him to do it, make sure he applies the lotion after bathing, while his skin is still moist.

Dry skin no longer: functions as a good barrier. Thus substances can reach through to deeper layers or tissue which can cause pain.

No.: One does not have to use moisturizers or lotion.  If your skin gives you symptoms or is cosmetically unappealing moisturizers may help, but not required.

Yes: It will dilute the expected effect. Achemical miss match can make it ineffective/cause allergic reaction or side effect.

Dry skin: Your baby may have a skin condition known as eczema.  Commonly affected areas are the inner elbows and behind the knees.  If mild, usually moisturizers are the first line treatment.  If more severe, children my require a steroid cream prescribed by a physician.  In some cases, eczema in a young baby may be a sign of food allergy.  If daily moisturizers do not help, seek medical attention.

May be eczema: You may have eczema or seborrhea on your face. See your PCP for treatment.
