can i use antihistamine eye drops if i already use maxidex (dexamethasone) drops?

Ask your doctor: Maxidex (dexamethasone) is a pretty strong steroid so i suspect something important is going on with your eyes. As such, i would not self treat with over the counter medications without the advice and consent of your treating physician.

i mistakingly used my antihistamine eye drops (olopatadine hydrochloride 0.7%) high dose with my contacts still in my eyes. it says not to do this. am i at risk of damage ?

i have pollen allergies.  among other things, i use zaditor and sometimes bpreve for my itching eyes. are there any new, low-cost, more-effective antihistamine eye drops available?

Allergic  conjunctiv: may not be the problem you have , however zaditor / Bpreve, if taken should be taken on regular basis to produce an effect, not on as needed basis, it takes time to see a result, contact lenses may be a problem if applied right after any eye drops. Olopatadine may be a good alternative together with loratadine regularly, read the labels carefully, see your doctor if no improvement, good luck

i have dry eye problem for which i use lubricating drops. i also get eye itching due to allergies. if i will use patanol or zandiator otc antihistamine eye drops ..will those make my underlying dryness in the eyes  worse?

: These are only your EYES, Sir. You should ask this question of the Eye Doctor who is taking care of this part of your health. Antihistamines tend to dry secretions, and Dr. Google reports "dry eyes" or "eye dryness" as side effects of both of these medications. Please follow up with your Eye Doctor in order to find a safe solution (no pun intended) for your symptoms.

could you use antihistamine eye drops for irritation due to herpes simplex in the eye?

Accepted Answer

Yes . . but: No doubt some of the sensation from a Herpes infection is due to activation of the allergic system - and therefore an anti-histamine drop might relieve some of the discomfort.  But it would not treat the primary infection, for which there are excellent and specific drops.  Hopefully you have an ophthalmologist helping you with this.

Can happen: Several eye drops are known to cause stinging or burning in eye when initially applied. This can make you feel that eye seems to be more red. As long as the symptoms go away, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

No, but ...: Squinting your eyes will not adversely affect your eyes but may be a sign that you have a refractive error (near-sightedness or far-sightedness) for which you may need glasses.  I recommend you see an eye doctor.

Not those medication: Blood pressure can fluctuate slightly and ongoing measurements are necessary to detect trends.  Benadryl, (diphenhydramine) Astepro and most eye drops should not affect (elevate) blood pressure.   Decongestants can worsen hypertension in a person who has uncontrolled blood pressure.

my eyes itch like crazy. i tried eye drops, benadryl, (diphenhydramine) and cold water. when i put the water in my eyes it just made my eyes hurt! how do i fix my dry itchy eyes?

Itchy: Most itchy eyes are related to allergy or to blepharitis-- you can try over the counter zaditor (ketotifen) for ocular allergy-- try two drops a day for several days- if not better, make an appointment with your local eye doctor...

can i take benadryl (diphenhydramine) and also use allergy eye drops (naphazoline & pheniramine)?

Accepted Answer

Yes: These drugs can supplement each other.  Any systemic effect of the eyedrops is trivial compared to the strength of the Benadryl (diphenhydramine) so the combination is useful if the allergic symptoms are affecting other parts of your body.
