why was i given a different antibiotic for c. dificile?

Accepted Answer

The 1st didn't work: Clostridium difficile can be "difficile" to treat and might not respond to the first round of antibiotics (usually Metronidazole or vancomycin)

it some times takes weeks of antibiotics to treat this infection, in fact. 

Stick with the new antibiotic and good luck!

Accepted Answer

MIC: This number is called the minimum inhibitory concentration (or mic).  It means the lowest concentration of antibiotic that inhibits the growth of the organism.  In general, the lower the mic, the more sensitive the organism is to the antibiotic.  There are other factors that go into choosing an antibiotic however, so choosing the antibiotic with the lowest mic is not always best.

It will take: a few more days, but should get better every day, not worse. Unless you have diabetes should heal well. You cannot sterilize wound, keep it clean, not irritated, no trauma

However, non-medical travelers generally should not be self-diagnosing and self-treating.

Yes, absolutely: Most of the time, appropriate use of antibiotic can be quite useful and save lives, but severe or even fatal allergic/ reaction can occur--rare but quite scarry is called steven-johnson syndrome (severe rash involving even the inside of mouth/eyes etc...This cause severe skin peeling, thus fluid loss and infections are significant concerns. So, use any med only if need to. Consult doc. Good luck.

Depends on which one: Some are just fine. However, if you are injected with a thick, viscus  liquid (especially if cold) that might be one that is uncomfortable.

Congestion: Sounds like upper respiratory congestion likely from some type of allergic rhinitis. I would recommend a trying the following: antihistamine and or flonase (nasal steroid).  You can try afrin or neosynephrine for starters, but only for 3 days. Frequent use of nasal saline would help.

Yes you can: As long as you feel ok, you can exercise while on antibiotics.
