is it safe to use clear eyes eyedrops while using antibiotic drops?

Accepted Answer

Yes: As long as it's a new bottle; i.e., sterile. Also, do not use the drops exactly at the same time. Wait 5 minutes in between drops so you don't wash one right out from the other.

is it safe to use antibiotic eye drops if i think i have pink eye?

Have an exam: Probably not prudent to use old bottle of drops, or drops intended for another person, to treat what you may believe is "pinkeye".  Old bottles may be contaminated or expired. Some of the preparations have steroids in them, and you can cause some serious damage if you are potentially treating the wrong condition. Best to be examined by an eye md for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

i have been taking metronidazole 500 mg for 3 days i have been prescribed antibiotic drops for pink eye. is it safe to use at the same time?

Accepted Answer

Yes: The eye drops are topical and not absorbed by your body. Neither medication should interfere with the other. You can take both safely.

can i use eye drops to treat the redness from pink eye? i'm using an antibiotic cream from my doctor to cure my pink eye, but it doesn't treat the redness. is it safe to use visine or something similar to make my eyes less bloodshot?

During : During the course of response to an infection the eyes will become red from dilated blood vessels responding to the inciting agent.  Any use of drops to get rid of the red may at times irritate and burn the eye more on application and may have a contra-effect.  I recommend using less irritating preservative-free artificial tears such as refresh to help improve the redness.  This will be a slow but less irritating process.

is erythromycin oinment for pink eye safe to use  while nursing? also if i don't use an antibiotic for bacterial pink eye will it go away?

Safe yes: Ointment is a little over kill, drops work just as well and do not blur the vision.  Pink eye is self limited, meaning that without treatment it will resolve in 2 weeks. Treatment is given to shorten the course of infection.

my child has a boil in his head and he has g6pd. what safe antibiotics can be recommended to my son. i hope anyone can answer my question. i am from philippines?

: Avoid Sulfa, Quinolones and Nitrofurantoin. 
Staphylococcus and MRSA should be considered when selecting a potential treatment. A culture of the abscess will help to guide therapy. Watch for signs of infection spread and fever.

why would they make a combo steroid and antibiotic ointment for eyes?

Why not?: Sometimes you need both- the antibiotic to kill the bugs, and a steroid to quiet the eye down.

does a sickness/fever in the whole body go away with antibiotics only added in infected eyes? or must i take atibiotic pills also for it to go away?

Accepted Answer

Infection: If you actually have a systemic bacterial infection then you need to be treated accordingly, not with topical eye drops. On the other hand, without knowing exactly what is going on you need to be fully evaluated before taking any more drugs. Best wishes.

can 15month old hurt themselves from coughing? saw pedi yesterday, gave daughter antibiotics, but she's coughing until she gags and eyes tear.

Coughing spells: Take your child into the washroom and turn on the hot shower. Let your child breath in the hot steam. At night, have he sleeep, with a vaporizer and an elevated matress. Push fluids with lemon and honey. Use vapo rub on chest at bedtime.

can i use a maximum strength triple antibiotic with pain relief ointment in my eye?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: Unless the package is marked that it can be used in the eye, it is best not used for that purpose.  There are plenty of eye products in pharmacies that have been cleared for eye use.
