It is plausible: There is a nail spicule or piece of nail still present under the cuticle or nail fold. If you are in pain you can see a different doctor who can help you. Usually when doctors are unavailable they make arrangements with a covering doctor.

: Most are trained in the procedure &amp; some enjoy doing it. Some might refer you out to a foot doctor based on their patient load ( it does take extra time). I would call the office staff &amp; see what they suggest.

: Ingrown toenails" can be infected, and difficult to correct since the nail imbedded under the lateral skin continuously reopens healing tissue.  See an orthopedic or a podiatrist, who may recommend removing the nail to effect proper healing.

Paronychia: Most ingrown toenails or fingernails get infected very quickly and an abscess (the greenish or white pus) forms very easily. I have never had one of these resolve without antibiotics or surgery.

No: Ingrown toenails are a physical problem in which a sharp edge or corner of the toenail is under some skin and continues to grow, thus cutting into the skin. The skin then gets swollen, inflamed, and painful. An anti-fungal cream would not help resolve the ingrown toenail problem.
