No it is not bad: It is not bad and it works for some people with occasional acid efflux, but if you have recurrent or persistant acid reflux you may need acid suppression with h2 blockers or ppis.

See your primary care doctor, who may order radiographic studies &amp;/or refer you to a gastroenterologist, if needed. Take in a written history of the duration &amp; severity of your symptoms. List not only the OTC meds you've taken for heartburn, but also all prescription, OTC, herbal &amp; recreational drugs you've used.

No: No, it is made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.  There is no aluminum in the compound.  It is added in small amounts to Tums (calcium carbonate) and antacids as a flavoring agent, giving them a tart taste.

GERD: Gastro esophageal reflux disease can cause acidic stomach contents to come back up into your mouth-- especially when lying down or after getting up from lying down.  This can occur after eating large meal or related to sudden weight gain.  If severe please see md.  There are stronger medications to reduce the amount of acid- rather than just neutralize acid with antacids...

i'm on day 1 of taking omeprazole for chronic acid reflux but it hasn't started working yet. is it safe to additionally take antacids with this drug?

Yes: go ahead and take the antacids especially if you know it works.  It can take awhile to get relief.  The inflammation can take several months to heal.  Also don't smoke or use nicotine, caffeine or decaf coffee, reduce to an optimal weight and elevate the head of your bed 4-6 inches on an incline so that the acid at night stays away form the esophagus.  The body makes the most acid at night

Common causes: The most common causes of vomiting and diarrhea are stomach viruses and bad food. If it is happening recurrently then there may be something else going on like an inflammatory bowel disorder. He should see a gastroenterologist for further consultation. He may need upper endoscopy and colonoscopy.
