how do antacids relieve stomach symptoms?

Antacid pros & cons: Many antacids work by neutralizing acid in your stomach.  Some contain simethicone that helps break up gas bubbles in your stomach. One floats on top of acid so it "coats" as the acid is refluxed. In any case, antacids must be taken multiple times a day to keep acid neutralized, and benefits are short-lived. Magnesium-containing ones can promote diarrhea; calcium-containing ones can increase acid!

GERD: Gastro esophageal reflux disease can cause acidic stomach contents to come back up into your mouth-- especially when lying down or after getting up from lying down.  This can occur after eating large meal or related to sudden weight gain.  If severe please see md.  There are stronger medications to reduce the amount of acid- rather than just neutralize acid with antacids...

Possibly: Antacids may reduce the amount of acid in the stomach. One of the disorders of swallowing includes reflux esophagitis (heartburn). Therefore, if you take antacids, you may reduce these symptoms. If you have difficulty swallowing, though, several other causes may be identified with correct evaluation by a gastroenterologist.

Symptoms: You may be having an infection, not sure what kind by your description. Push fluids, go with blend foods for now and take Acetaminophen if fever if over 101.5 or having symptoms of pain in the body. If fever continues and your conditions doesn't get better or gets worse, see doc.

i am diagnosed with gastritis after having symptoms like giddiness, nausea, bloated upp. abdomen. after taking antacids, i had diarrhea. is it normal?

Yes depends on type: Some common antacids contain  aluminum hydroxide/magnesium hydroxide/simethicone and this can cause diarrhea.If the diarrhea becomes bothersome talk with your doctor. You can try tums(calcium carbonate) product  used to treat minor gastric problems without causing diarrhea but watch for constipation. With both products drink plenty of water.  See your doctor if not better in 2 weeks. Take care.

Ok: The best way to know for sure is have an endoscopy. Stomach cancer it's very rare  age 35 in a non-smoker non-Alcoholic especially with no family history of stomach cancer

what is the proper dosage for amoxycillin-omeprazole-metronidazole combination? he has all symptoms of ulcer. the gp prescribed an antacid and omeprazole only. he cries and writhes in pain despite that?

: I would never self treat an 8 yo kid for an ulcer based on symptoms you decide are relevant. I never saw one in an 8 yo in 4 decades of practice. If you truly believe it have the kid evaluated by a pedi-GI doctor who can do a endoscopy and validate or exclude the label.

i started having pain in my chest area under my left breast, sharp pain and in my back a week ago after each time i ate anything. antacids gave me relief. now those symptoms are accompanied with nausea, diarrhea, fatigue and constant back pain.

Many Causes: There are many things that could be causing your symptoms.  since your symptoms are getting worse, I would be a good idea to consult your physician.
