is chest thightness during high intensity exercising  one time a sign of angina or could it be something else? i'm female. 49, diovan (valsartan) for hbp.

One time, no, but: if it is reproducible and progressive and predictable it should be checked out by your doc. You do have one risk factor , high blood pressure, but if that is all and you are in good health, given your gender and age it is probably not angina. Good test: Angina, which simply refers to chest pain but has commonly become synonymous with ischemic coronary artery disease can be suspected by symptoms, suggested by nuclear stress tests and firmly diagnosed by cardiac catheterization.  Consult your doctor for the best course of action to take if you are experiencing suspicious chest pains.

Discuss with your cardiologist about the best exercise stress test in your particular situation. CPET? ECHO? thallium? or something else?

Angina: True angina lasting more than a few to 30 minutes would then be considered more unstable angina and potentially a heart attack.  If you are truly experiencing what you perceive as angina, you should be evaluated in an ER as this is a potentially serious symptom.

Sounds stable : Pain with activity.  Relieved by rest.   Stable pattern.    See your doctor and should set up stress test to see if truly heart related.    If you start getting similar discomfort at rest.  If it doesn't go away with rest.  See someone asap
