Depends on infection: Whether or not an antibiotic or combination works on an infection depends on the infecting  organism ; to what antibiotics that organism is  susceptible.  Ampiclox is Ampicillin plus cloxacillin which extends the spectrum to better treat staphylococcus (not mrsa).  Amoxicillin is a 3x daily ampicillin.

Swollen gum: You need to see your dentist to get a proper diagnosis for the swollen gum. Is it a localized area or the entire mouth? Do not self-medicate without a correct diagnosis because you may make things even worse. That being said, i strongly urge you to see a dentist asap. I cannot give you advice on which medication to take when I have not seen your specific problem. Warm salt water rinses can help.

Hopefully better: Not sure what you are asking.  Generally Amoxicillin has few side-effects.  Some people have mild GI intolerance, and there are allergic reactions.  If it is doing its job and was chosen carefully you should feel improved.
